I've always been told by my parents games are for children... but really, why should one stop liking video games because he/she isn't young anymore?

We don't tell people to stop liking chocolate if they're older.

I feel kinda embarassed playing games near my parents. They really think it's for kids. I love games so much there is no way i'll stop, imagine seeing a new zelda game and not playing it!  Angry Cry

What are your opinions?

It depends on the game, although I myself still play Mario games.

I'm 41 and have played games since I was about 3 or 4. The first things I played were electro mechanical arcade games at fair grounds and the like. This was in the days before Pong had reached the UK.

I still play games... new and old, and see no reason to stop.
Why stop doing something you enjoy, just because you get older? It doesn't stop being fun.

I think a lot of the 50+ year olds generation just dont seem to "get" how much times have changed, and its not childish to play video games, they only think it is because kids also play them and it has the word "games" in it which makes them think "thats what kids do". It wouldn't be as childish if games were called "simulation reality entertainment device"

The people who make the Grand Theft Auto games have their offices just 20 minutes' walk from my flat.   Heart

I've been playing video games since I was 4 years old. Although I was young I was there through the 8-bit revolution and I doubt I will ever stop playing them. I must admit I don't play as much now as I used to (I had to give up MMORPG's for example), but then I am busy with other things these days Smiley

I love videogames but they take too much of my life away so I dont own a video games machine.  But I think with the content and the improvement in graphics over the years some games are definitly designed for adults I would not let my child should I have one play a game like silent hill

I agree, it is a much more adult market now than it once was. I loved Silent Hill btw, the orignal game had great atmosphere.

My father thinks video games are for kids, bt he doesn't think computer games are. He still plays Wolfenstein 3D, for example.

Not sure about the views on video games, but your dad has excellent taste, Wolfenstein was a fantastic game Smiley

Yeah its pretty weird. If you play computer games its no better than console games. Usually they're either a fan of games of hate any type of game and think its for kids.

I know. He's 48, though--and when he was young, consoles for the most part had fast paced and simple (yet addicting) games, while computers got the more technicaly advanced game.

Your dad comes from the era of packman and good wholesome games like that.  Simple but fun.  To zen yes I did enjoy silent hill as well.  Going through the hospital section with the chainsaw made me feel invincible LOL

I consider myself quite an old gamer - I've been playing video games for around 27/28 years, so I have watched the scene change and I have watched a lot of big software companies come and go. For me what counts most in a game is game play. I can still spend hours playing Gauntlet or Bubble Bobble on the Commodore 64 as easily as I can spend a few hours playing Assasins Creed on the Xbox or PS3. I suspect that a lot of older gamers feel the same, or would if they still had access to old hardware.
